Lucia Bautista is a visual artist living and working in Mount Vernon, NY. She recieved her BFA from Pratt Institute in 2026.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Bautista’s work explores loneliness, internal connection, and personal identity. Finding comfort in nature, her admiration of natural processes materializes through meticulous study. Working at a small scale, she often creates life size drawings of insects, a deliberate questioning on what we consider ‘life’ and how we categorize the value of living things.
A fervent collector of natural objects, she considers this process diaristic, heavily informing the subject matter in her work. Each collected object represents a moment of relation; they are records of time and distinct memories. A desperate reach to hold onto what changes and what never seems to, the collection is always growing. In her work, nature is a hiding place, one which begs to be found but tries its hardest to remain unnoticed.
